In this new series of paintings Johanna has developed a new and original technique in her use of materials.  Indeed, lately she has been working on delicate Japanese papers with watercolours, acrylic paints, soft pastels and pigments that she overlaps as collages on canvas. Once layered, the transparency of the paper allows us to see through the different stages of construction: emanates a unique light and serenity, thus referring almost to stained glass. Through her sensitivity to materials, colour and tone combined with simple but purposeful drawing, Johanna Baudou, is able to achieve very different states of seeing and feeling. It is an unusual combination that enables her to evoke both the transitory and the deeply rooted, the changing moment and the persistence of certain forms and their grip on our imagination.
